Psychological Support

Our Psychological Support Service

Learning that you have a life limiting condition can feel overwhelming and leave you and those who are important to you struggling to cope.

Having someone outside of your immediate circle to listen can help you to make sense of your situation. Whether you’re coming to terms with your own change of circumstances, or are a family member, friend, or carer in need of support, our team can help.

Patients who are under the care of one of our clinical teams or are the family members, friends and carers of patients, can explore concerns and ways of coping with the help of our psychological support service. We have qualified and experienced counsellors who are here to offer confidential, emotional and psychological support to you, and your family members, friends and carers.

Upon learning that you or someone close to you has a life limiting condition, it is perfectly normal to experience a mixture of emotions. You may feel angry, upset and confused, or you might feel nothing at all.

Sessions are offered on a 1 to 1 and group basis, depending on you needs, providing a regular time and space for you to talk about the issues that you are facing, and to explore difficult feelings in a confidential, non-judgemental safe environment.

Psychological support is not about offering advice, but you might find that you gain insight into your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and are able to consider if these are helping or hindering your ability to cope.

You may work with your counsellor to look at your concerns, resolve difficulties, and you will be supported in making sense of how you feel.
