Championing Team Compton

Meet our Patrons and Ambassadors

Compton Care's Patrons

At Compton Care, we are honoured to be supported by distinguished individuals who serve as our Patrons. These high-profile figures lend their names, reputations, and influence to champion our mission, helping to raise the profile of our work.

Our Patrons are appointed for life in recognition of their exceptional commitment to our cause. Their enduring support plays a vital role in enhancing our visibility, credibility, and ability to provide outstanding care to those living with life limiting conditions.

We are honoured to have Hugh and Anita Porter MBE as dedicated patrons of Compton Care.

Meet our Patrons

Hugh Porter MBE is one of Britain’s most accomplished cyclists, winning four world titles in the individual pursuit – more than any other rider – and a Commonwealth Games gold medal in 1966. After his professional career, Hugh became a trusted voice in cycling commentary for BBC and ITV, using his platform to continue inspiring others.

Anita Porter MBE (née Lonsbrough) is a former Olympic swimmer who won gold at the 1960 Rome Olympics and held five world records during her career. At one point, she simultaneously held the Olympic, Commonwealth, and European titles – a rare and extraordinary achievement.

Their sporting journeys have been marked by determination, endurance, and compassion – values that align powerfully with the care and support we provide to the communities we serve at Compton.

Hugh and Anita have supported Compton Care since our first cycling sportive event launched in 2016, generously giving their time and energy to help raise vital funds – raising a remarkable £226,000 to date. In 2020, Hugh’s “80 for 80” birthday cycling challenge raised over £7,500, a testament to his enduring spirit and the power of community.

Anita and I are most honoured to be patrons of Compton Care. It’s a cause close to our hearts, and we’re proud to help make a difference where it matters most. – Hugh Porter MBE

Introducing Compton Care's Ambassadors

Compton Ambassadors are passionate supporters who voluntarily commit their time and influence to help champion our vision, mission, and values.

Our ambassadors help to increase awareness of our specialist palliative and bereavement support services and seek to engage with the local community, corporate partners and individuals.

This is a varied and flexible voluntary role, working alongside trustees and senior management. It includes representing Compton Care within their network, attending key briefings and VIP events, and helping – where possible – to generate vital income to fund our services for patients with life limiting conditions and support for their loved ones.

Andrew Rogers

Andrew built a successful career in the automotive industry, spanning over 30 years. A lifelong car enthusiast, he has worked across various roles, ultimately earning a senior position within a large PLC. His passion for Compton Care stems from the exceptional support his parents received during their final stages of life. Witnessing the outstanding compassion and care provided by Compton inspired him to give back. Andrew initially served as a trustee for three years before stepping into his current role as an Ambassador.

An avid runner, Andrew regularly participates in races around the world, raising vital funds for Compton Care. His dedication and commitment continue to make a meaningful impact on the charity and those it supports.

Ambassador

Brendon Turner

Brendon’s journey with Compton Care is deeply personal. When his father, Lord Bilston, received care following a cancer diagnosis, the compassion and support his family experienced left a lasting impact. Determined to give back, he founded the Lord Bilston Challenge in 2014 – a tough but rewarding endurance event that has since raised an incredible £150,000 for Compton.

As a personal trainer and co-founder of Energize Personal Training, Brendon is passionate about helping others push their limits. Now, as a Compton Care Ambassador, he is dedicated to raising awareness and funds, ensuring more families receive the same specialist care and support that meant so much to his own.
