Supporting the future of specialist care at home

Hospice Dragons Fellowship

Introducing the Hospice Dragons Fellowship

The Hospice Dragons Fellowship is a new philanthropy initiative bringing together community leaders, philanthropists and long‑standing supporters who want to transform end‑of‑life care across Wolverhampton, the Black Country and South Staffordshire.

At its heart is a shared mission: to secure the long‑term future of Compton Care’s pioneering Virtual Ward, ensuring people with complex, life‑limiting conditions can receive specialist hospice care in the place they feel safest – their own home.

Why the Virtual Ward Matters

Compton’s Virtual Ward delivers 24/7 hospice‑led care at home, combining remote monitoring, virtual consultations, rapid response visits and personalised care planning.

It provides:

  • Specialist-level care for up to 20 patients at a time
  • Rapid Response support, with 89% of patients seen within two hours
  • A 24/7 Advice & Referral Line, answering more than 28,000 calls a year
  • A model proven to reduce hospital admissions and honour people’s end‑of‑life wishes — with 98% of patients last year dying in their preferred place

To sustain and grow this service, Compton must raise over £500,000 annually.

What It Means to Be a Hospice Dragon

By joining the Fellowship and committing to multi‑year giving, members provide the stability that allows Compton to plan confidently, innovate quickly and reach more families in need.

Fellows receive:

  • Permission to use the bespoke Hospice Dragons Fellowship logo to demonstrate their support
  • Regular, personalised updates showing the impact of their support
  • Twice-yearly meetings with the CEO, offering insight into future plans, key developments, and the hospice’s impact
  • Connection to a committed community of like‑minded supporters
  • A prestigious physical Dragon plaque displayed proudly on our Recognition Wall in the hospice gardens
  • The knowledge that their support is directly enabling specialist care at home

The Difference You Can Make

Your support helps provide:

  • Clinical specialists — consultants, nurses, doctors, paramedics
  • Travel and equipment essential for care in the home
  • Digital infrastructure and remote monitoring technology
  • A 24/7 local Advice & Referral Line
  • Psychological, social and bereavement support for families

Every year, thousands of people rely on these services. Families like Joe’s — who was able to remain at home, surrounded by the people she loved most.
