Meet Claire, a Paramedic Practitioner in our Rapid Response team…

Claire joined Compton Care in 2022, bringing with her 14 years of invaluable experience from the ambulance service. Currently completing her Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice, Claire is a vital part of our team, responding to urgent and rapidly changing situations that our patients face.

Supporting patients in their time of need
As a Paramedic Practitioner, Claire draws on her specialist skills and knowledge to support patients when they need it most. The Rapid Response team focuses on delivering care in the comfort of our patients’ homes, helping to avoid hospital admissions whenever possible and appropriate.

Claire offers essential support during times of crisis, assists with symptom control, and aids in decision making to improve end of life care.

A typical day in the Rapid Response team
Each day begins with a handover discussion from the night staff, reviewing any urgent activities that occurred out of hours. The team then liaises with other clinical teams in the area to identify patients who may need their specialised input. This collaborative approach ensures that patients receive comprehensive care, tailored to their individual needs.

The team also conduct Virtual Ward rounds to identify patients requiring home assessments or those with complex symptom management needs. Throughout the day, Claire responds to calls from family members, patients, and healthcare professionals, offering advice and making home visits as needed. These visits can range from providing emotional support to intervening during palliative care emergencies and co-ordinating with ambulance crews to avoid unnecessary hospital admissions.

No two days are the same for Claire and the Rapid Response team, but their commitment to making a difference in the community remains unwavering. Claire takes great pride in her work and in the growth of the Rapid Response service, knowing that each day they positively impact the lives of those they support.
