It's all about you

Spiritual Care

How can we help?

It’s about knowing yourself and what is important to you so that you don’t lose yourself in times of illness, crisis or loss.

It enables you to face the challenges related to life changing events with an awareness of

who you are, focusing on:

  • What makes you smile?
  • What makes you feel safe and secure?
  • Where are your sources of strength?

What gives meaning to your life?

It is about feeling connected – in the present moment; to self; others and to nature. Spirituality is about experiencing beauty in the everyday through our different senses and for some it is important to explore where we belong in the universe.

As you come to terms with your new situation, you may find yourself asking questions like Why me? Why do bad things happen? Will I be remembered? and What happens after death? Although we can’t answer your questions, we can support you by exploring these questions with you and trying to find some peace and meaning in what’s been, what’s happening now and what the future will hold.

Is spiritual care religious?

We are all spiritual people and express our spirituality in countless ways – music, sport, dancing, following a religion, gardening and writing are just a few examples.

We’re here to focus on what’s important to you and to support you to face the future together with your loved ones.

Spirituality can, however, be expressed through a religious practice. Our chaplain is an ordained minister in the Church of England, and we have a supportive relationship with our local Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, Quaker and Sikh communities, who can be contacted on request.

The Space

The Space offers a quiet space within Compton that you can use to take time for yourself. Use the space to reflect, meditate or pray, it is there whenever you need it, a place for you to remember loved ones and to write down your thoughts, wishes or prayers.

If you would like more information about spiritual care support, please ask your nurse or a member of our Compton Care team. Alternatively, you can contact our Advice and Referral Line on 01902 774570 to speak to a member of the team.
