Ten years on: Local charity celebrates Cycling for Compton milestone with special discount offer
Specialist palliative and bereavement support provider, Compton Care, is celebrating a decade of its high-impact charity cycling events. To mark the milestone, the charity is offering a limited-time 25% discount on entry fees for riders signing up this year.
The events began back in 2016 with the launch of Round the Wrekin, an idea sparked by cycling legend and Compton Patron Hugh Porter MBE. Since then, the event has grown into one of Compton Care’s flagship fundraisers, enriched by collaborations with cycling specialists including Ride Ventures. Now, the charity is gearing up to make this year’s event – Cycle for Compton on Sunday 17 May – its boldest and most exciting yet.
Community and Events Fundraiser at the charity, Cara Bright, added: “We’re really excited about this year’s event, and to celebrate our ten-year anniversary we’re offering 25% off entry fees if you sign up before 19 April. We have partnered with Sky Blue Adventures, who specialise in world‑class, authentic outdoor experiences and training. Their team brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise, having supported major events – from the Tour of Britain, to the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, the 2023 Glasgow World Championships and the West Midlands Cyclo Cross League.
“For Cycle for Compton, we’ve expanded our offer to include a brand-new offroad route, and for the first time, we’re welcoming e-bikes too.”
Cycle for Compton starts from Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club in Kingswinford and offers the choice of three exciting new routes. The Short Route is a 44-mile ride through beautiful scenery, the Long Route is a 90-mile challenge for seasoned cyclists, and for those who prefer off-road thrills, there is a 40-mile route. The event is open to both pedal and e-bikes, and participants aged 14+ are welcome (under 18s must be accompanied by an adult).
Cara continued: “Everyone who takes part in the event will receive an exclusive Cycle for Compton medal and there are food and drink stations to keep cyclists fuelled and hydrated on all routes (and post-ride), along with mechanical and medical support ensuring every participant feels safe and supported.”
Cyclists are encouraged to raise much needed funds for the charity, which supports local people living with life limiting conditions through its range of specialist services. Compton provides clinical care on its Inpatient Unit and supports patients out in the community, providing expert care in the place they call home. Patients’ families also have access to the charity’s services and bereavement support.
Cara concluded: “Since our cycling events began, we’ve welcomed hundreds of cyclists who have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for Compton Care, which is just incredible. Cycle for Compton continues to bring together cycling enthusiasts, local communities and longtime supporters to raise vital funds for local people. With a 25% discount on your entry fee, now is the time to sign up, start training and fundraising to support local families in need.”
The charity is offering a 25% discount to anyone registering for the event before Sunday 19 April.
