Saddle up! Local charity invites you to Cycle for Compton
Specialist palliative and bereavement support provider, Compton Care, is looking forward to the return of its exciting charity cycle event taking place on Sunday, 17 May, and is offering a £5 early bird discount.
Starting from Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club in Kingswinford, Cycle for Compton offers three exciting new routes to choose from, including an exhilarating off-road option.
The Short Route is a 44-mile ride through the beautiful scenery of Pattingham, Coalbrookdale and Bridgnorth. The Long Route is a 90-mile challenge and will take seasoned cyclists through Ryton, Church Stretton, Bridgnorth and Claverley. And for those who prefer off-road thrills, there is a 40-mile route taking in the trails around the Severn Valley Railway, Jack Mytton Way and Dudmaston. The event is open to both pedal and e-bikes, and participants aged 14+ are welcome (under 18s must be accompanied by an adult).
Cycling legend and Compton Patron Hugh Porter MBE along with Compton Ambassador Brendon Turner, no stranger to cycling challenges as founder of the Lord Bilston Big Challenge, helped to launch the event today.
Hugh said: “We are really looking forward to supporting Compton Care once again with its charity cycling event. One thing we hear time and again from previous participants is how amazing the atmosphere is on the day. With an early bird offer of £5 off your entry fee, now is the time to sign up, start training and fundraising for this vital charity that supports so many local families in need.”
Cyclists are encouraged to raise much needed funds for the charity which supports local people living with life limiting conditions through its range of specialist services. Compton provides clinical care on its Inpatient Unit and supports patients out in the community, providing expert care in the place they call home. Patients’ families also have access to the charity’s services and bereavement support.
Brendon added: “Compton Care is a charity very close to my heart and, having taken part in its previous cycling events, I’m really excited about this year’s Cycle for Compton and the new routes to choose from. These events raise thousands of pounds for local people and their families, which is just incredible. Whether you’re a novice wanting to put in some training or an experienced cyclist up for a challenge, you’ll be supporting your local community at the same time, so sign up today.”
Everyone who takes part in the event will receive an exclusive Cycle for Compton medal and there are food and drink stations to keep cyclists fuelled and hydrated on all routes (and post-ride), along with mechanical and medical support ensuring every participant feels safe and supported.
The charity is offering a £5 discount to anyone registering for the event before Monday, 16 February. To make the most of this early bird offer and to find out more, click here and enter code CYCLE5 at registration.
