Sam's story

Sam's story

“Dad, I’ve found this place…”

It was Sam’s daughter, Poonan who initially discovered our Living Well Service last summer.

Having been recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Sam was looking to meet people he could relate to and learn something new.

Poonan and Sam came along to a Living Well Introduction Session and met with our Diversional Therapists, Clare and Faye, to find out more. Since then, Sam has been coming to our Men Shed sessions on a Wednesday afternoon.

Sam, an avid cricket fan, is a retired television engineer who has worked for both British Rail and Sony. He lives with his wife, Balvir, in Merry Hill, just across the road from Poonan, his son-in-law and his two grandchildren.

Sam said: “It has been really helpful for me to meet other people with Parkinson’s and share our experiences, as there are a few members of the group with the condition.

“I only come a long for a couple of hours each week, but it makes a huge difference.”

Our Living Well Service supports people with life limiting conditions to live as actively and independently as possible.
