No two days are ever the same for Becky, Compton’s Clinical Educator. From delivering venepuncture training one day to facilitating communication skills workshops the next, her role is all about supporting people to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to provide outstanding care.

Having worked at Compton for almost three years, Becky plays a key role in educating and supporting a wide range of learners. Her work spans hospice staff, healthcare professionals from partner organisations and NHS colleagues, with training tailored to meet the individual needs of each group.

But Becky’s role extends far beyond the ‘classroom’. Alongside delivering education, she provides guidance and support to visiting healthcare professionals and works collaboratively with university partners to support students throughout their placement experience. She is also an active member of several organisational groups, including the Clinical Effectiveness Group and Research Governance Group, where she contributes to quality improvement initiatives, evidence-based practice and the ongoing development of clinical services.

When asked what she enjoys most about her role, the answer is simple: variety.

“Whether I’m teaching practical clinical skills, supporting difficult conversations or contributing to service development, every day provides an opportunity to improve care through education, quality and patient safety,” Becky said.

One of the highlights of her role is the team around her.

“I’m fortunate to work with such a supportive and dedicated team. Their knowledge, encouragement and commitment make every day enjoyable and rewarding.”

For Becky, some of the most meaningful moments come from seeing the impact education can have on patient care. While she may not always work directly with patients and families, she regularly hears how the training she delivers is making a difference.

“One of the most rewarding parts of my role is hearing how education has made a difference in practice,” she explained. “Whether it’s a care home colleague feeling more confident supporting a family or a student discovering a passion for palliative care, these moments remind me that education ultimately improves patient care.”

Through her passion for learning, quality improvement and supporting others, Becky helps ensure that people across healthcare settings are equipped to provide the very best care when it matters most.
