As National Volunteers’ Week (2–8 June) sweeps across the UK, Compton Care is proudly shining a light on the compassionate and dedicated individuals who give their time, hearts, and talents to support people living with life limiting conditions.

Every month, hundreds of volunteers step through Compton’s doors – not for recognition or reward, but to make someone’s journey a little brighter and easier. From offering a comforting cup of tea, helping to raise vital funds in our stores or supporting our fundraising events, these volunteers are the unsung heroes behind the charity’s specialist palliative and bereavement support.

Rachel Overfield, Chief Executive Officer at Compton Care, said: “We are extremely fortunate to have a wonderful band of dedicated volunteers who generously provide thousands of hours of support every month.  Each and every one of them plays a key role in helping us to deliver our full range of specialist services to support our local communities.

“With Volunteers’ Week being celebrated across the UK, it gives us the chance to not only thank those people who already kindly give their time to support the charity but also to warmly welcome anyone who feels inspired to join us.”

From tending the gardens in our beautiful grounds, to serving in bustling coffee shops and retail stores, to lending expertise in research and online sales, Compton offers a rich variety of volunteering opportunities across the region.

Rachel continued, “Volunteering is more than giving time – it has many benefits including obtaining new skills, forging friendships and playing a meaningful role in helping to make a huge difference to the lives of local people living with life limiting conditions and support for their families.”

Linda who volunteers at the charity’s Crumbles Coffee House shared: “I volunteer to give something back to Compton and repay the kindness of the staff who looked after my mom.  I volunteer with the catering team and love meeting new people and being among all the customers.”

Whether you’re seeking experience to boost your CV, are recently retired, or simply looking to make a difference, there’s a place for you at Compton Care. Volunteering not only supports vital local services – it transforms lives and can provide a real sense of purpose.
