We are calling on the local community to show its support to help the hospice be there for more people in the moments that matter.

Moments that Matter is our latest fundraising campaign, sharing the story of Rachel, a Clinical Nurse Specialist in our Community Services team, and how she was there for a patient, Graham, in the moments that truly mattered to him and his family.

Rachel said: “When Graham came to Compton, he was looking for a different kind of care – care that focused on helping him to feel safe, supported and never alone.

“Caring for Graham wasn’t just about his medical needs. It was about respecting his wishes, supporting his family and being there in the moments that mattered.”

Kerry, Graham’s stepson, added: “At Compton, Graham felt truly listened to. Rachel didn’t just care for him clinically, she fought his corner, respected his choices, and made sure his voice was always heard.

“In life, some people have a vocation and some just do a job. Rachel has a vocation. She put Graham first every single time.”

Graham was cared for on Compton’s Inpatient Unit and at home by our Community Services team. In 2025 – 2026, 352 patients received 24-hour specialist care on our Inpatient Unit and the Community team made more than 8,790 support visits to patients in their homes.

Jo Morris, Fundraiser at Compton Care, concluded: “It is our privilege to be there for people in our community in the moments that matter. People like Graham and his family.

“However, these moments are only possible because of the support and generosity of the local community. We have launched our Moments that Matter appeal to ensure that we can continue to be there for these moments now and in the future.”
