Today is National Receptionists Day, celebrating the vital role of receptionists across all industries.

Our Reception teams play a vital role in supporting our services by providing a warm, professional, and reassuring welcome to everyone visiting us. As the first point of contact, they contribute to the smooth running of our sites and ensure every visitor has a positive experience.

Here we catch up with Charlotte, Senior Receptionist at our Ruskin Road site.

How long have you worked at Compton…

I am relatively new to Compton, having started my role in January this year. I bring with me experience in front‑facing customer service roles across both reception and retail, so I understand how important it is to make people feel comfortable from the moment they arrive.

Tell us what an average day looks like (if there is such a thing!)

My role is all about creating a warm, welcoming environment for everyone who visits so I begin each day by opening and preparing the site, making sure everything is ready for our clients. Creating that first impression is really important so I like to ensure the space looks just right so it feels calm and welcoming.

Throughout the day, I greet clients with a big smile and take time to chat with them, helping them feel at ease. Sometimes a friendly conversation can make a real difference!

As part of my role I support the Counselling and Family Support team and contact people who may need counselling or emotional support, offering appointments and making sure they know we’re here for them.

Supporting my colleagues is a big part of my role too. I help the Complementary Therapy and Lymphoedema teams wherever I can, and I’m always on hand if the counsellors need anything.

Ruskin Road sits at the heart of the local community, and as part of my role I actively engage with local businesses and community groups to raise awareness of the community space available at Ruskin Road and how it can be used.

What’s your favourite part of the job…

My favourite part of the job is interacting with people. I really enjoy welcoming clients, having a chat, and helping them feel comfortable. It’s especially rewarding to become a familiar face that people recognise, I also love working alongside colleagues across all departments at Ruskin Road. it feels like a real team, and everyone supports each other.
