Compton Care invites local artists to create a ‘Patients Room with a View’ mural as competition launches
Compton Care is today launching a creative challenge to find a local artist who can transform Compton Hall with a fabulous piece of art.
For over 40 years, Compton Care has provided specialist palliative and end of life care to patients and support for their families from its Grade II-listed building, Compton Hall.
Located in the west of Wolverhampton, Compton’s figurehead building, built in 1845, has the most amazing interior, inspired by William Morris, a pioneer of the arts and craft movement and exemplar of design at that time.
Fast forward to 2025, it’s important that this generation of design and aesthetics are captured at Compton Hall to ensure that the space remains as contemporary as it always has been.
To support this, Compton is inviting local artists and designers to create a winning mural design to go on an external wall that patients staying on the Inpatient Unit will look out to. The brief is to provide an oasis of calm and relaxation for those who are using the facilities, that also reflects the people of the city and surrounding areas and how the charity provides practical, physical, emotional and spiritual support to local people living with a life limiting condition.
The judging panel, headed up by Compton’s CEO Rachel Overfield, will select the design that matches the brief best and captures the spirit of Compton, which will then adorn the exterior of the building to inspire patients, their loved ones and visitors.
Commenting on the competition, Rachel Overfield, CEO of Compton Care said: “We are always trying to think of innovative ways to improve patients experiences at Compton Care. We aim to provide the highest quality of care and support so it’s important that the surroundings reflect this. We hope the wall art instillation will be a fabulously inspiring piece that reflects the support that we offer here at Compton.”
