Kirsty and Steve Bull MBE announced as official Ambassadors for Compton Care
Compton Care is proud to announce that former Wolverhampton Wanderers football legend Steve Bull MBE and his wife, Kirsty Bull, have officially joined the organisation as ambassadors. The couple, who have long been dedicated advocates of Compton Care, will take on this new role to help raise awareness and support for the charity’s mission of providing specialist palliative and bereavement support for people living with life limiting conditions.
Steve Bull MBE has been a champion for charitable causes throughout his career, notably through the Steve Bull Foundation, which has significantly supported Compton Care over the years. Through various donations and fundraising efforts, the foundation has contributed an incredible £55,000 towards vital equipment, patient care, and facility improvements at Compton Care.
In their new roles as ambassadors, both Steve and Kirsty will work closely with the charity to engage the community, support fundraising initiatives, and promote the invaluable services that Compton Care provides to the local communities it serves.
Rachel Overfield, Compton Care CEO, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Kirsty and Steve as official Compton ambassadors. Their passion and commitment to the Wolverhampton community, combined with their longstanding support of our work, make them the perfect ambassadors to help us reach more people in need and continue providing high-quality care.”
Speaking about their new roles, Steve Bull MBE expressed his enthusiasm: “Compton Care has always been close to my heart. The work they do for individuals and families facing incredibly tough times is truly inspiring. Kirsty and I are honoured to take on this role and look forward to continuing to help in any way we can.”
Kirsty Bull, who runs BB’s Boutique in Perton which frequently supports Compton with fundraising initiatives, echoed the sentiment, adding, “It’s a privilege to be part of an organisation that makes such a meaningful difference in people’s lives. We hope to use our platform to shine a light on the amazing work Compton Care does every day.”
Over the years, the Steve Bull Foundation has played a crucial role in enhancing the quality of care provided by Compton Care. In 2011, a donation of £800 helped purchase new pillows and make improvements to the garden facilities, improving comfort for patients and visitors. In 2014, a further £4,437 was donated to purchase three new beds, ensuring that patients received the best possible care. In 2015, a donation of £2,400 was used to purchase three laptop trolleys and laptops for the ward area, along with blood pressure machines for the Community Nurse Specialists to use when in patients’ homes.
The Foundation continued its support in 2016 with a donation of £2,800 towards a training manikin to aid staff training. The following year, £1,100 was donated to purchase Pulse Oximeters and nebulisers, enabling patients to receive essential respiratory support from the comfort of their own homes. Additional contributions included a Covid emergency donation to support Compton Care during the height of the pandemic.
One of the most significant donations came in 2021 when the Steve Bull Foundation contributed £40,000 towards the creation of new relative spaces and communal areas on the Inpatient Unit. This donation was the result of extensive discussions to ensure the funds were used in a way that would have the greatest impact on patients and their families. The project, which provided a much-needed sanctuary for relatives, was a major milestone for Compton Care. Additionally that year, a further £500 was donated to fund fishtanks, contributing to a calming and therapeutic environment for patients. Most recently, the Bull’s held a Valentine’s Day Ball this year in aid of Compton, which raised £1,000.
The appointment of Steve and Kirsty Bull as ambassadors further strengthens Compton Care’s commitment to expanding its reach and ensuring that those in need of palliative and end of life care services receive the highest level of support and compassion.
