A Day in the Life at Compton Care – Josh
Our Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) visit patients in their own home, or the place they call home such as a care home.
Here we catch up with CNS Josh.
I’ve been a part of the Compton team for two and a half years, working within the community to support patients and families facing life-limiting conditions. I began supporting patients in nursing homes and care homes with advanced care planning, before transitioning into a community role.
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist in palliative care, I strive to deliver expert support to patients, families, and healthcare professionals. My role involves symptom management, emotional support, education, and coordination of care, ensuring dignity and comfort.
Every day brings something different. One moment I might be supporting a family with advance care planning, the next I’m working closely with GPs and district nurses to manage complex symptoms. Whether it’s a home visit, a clinical discussion, or simply being there to listen – flexibility, care and compassion are essential and drive everything that I do. While no two days are the same, the focus is always on providing compassionate, high-quality care.
It’s a genuine privilege to be welcomed into people’s lives at such a personal time, and often become an extension of their family and support network. Supporting someone to achieve a peaceful, dignified end-of-life experience – often in the comfort of their own home if this is the patient’s choice – is deeply meaningful. Being able to offer that kind of care is why I do what I do.
