Two Compton Care Doctors Secure Prestigious Training

Two doctors at Compton Care have been awarded a placement to continue their studies within palliative care. Emma Wooldridge and Ben Lambert were both awarded a place to study whilst working on the prestigious West Midlands Specialist Palliative Medicine training rotation, a four year programme that will enhance their skills within palliative care and enable them to become consultants in the specialty.

Only six places within the Midlands are offered and 26 across the whole country. Emma and Ben have just completed a year’s placement with the charity and look forward to furthering their studies in Hereford and Coventry, respectively.

The two doctors, when talking about their experience at Compton, explained that it was a job of incredible highs and lows, but that it was the patients and the families that truly kept them motivated, especially through such a difficult year.

When talking about palliative care, Ben mentioned ‘It is a very humbling role, you are working as part of team to support someone who is going through one of the hardest parts of their life. You are usually the last medical team that this person will work with, and that’s a huge honour.’

Fran Hakkak, Medical Director at Compton Care, commented on the two doctors, saying, ‘It’s been a joy to have Emma and Ben working with us at Compton this last year. They are both great doctors and it’s fantastic that they have both secured competitive regional places to progress their training in palliative medicine and eventually become consultants in the specialty. We’ll miss them but will keep in touch and I wish them all the very best in their future careers.’
