The Banks’s Round the Wrekin Sportive 2018

Now a permanent fixture on the cycling calendar!

This Sportive starts at Dudley Kingswinford rugby club and heads out into the Shropshire Hills taking in the Long Mynd, Stiperstones and The Wrekin.

Supported by cycling legend Hugh Porter MBE.

There is a choice of three routes which will challenge all levels of rider from the experienced to the beginner.

The Routes

Epic Route (101.5 Miles / 160 Km) (+7471ft / -7469 ft)

Starting at Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club, this route will take you in a North Westerly direction via Bobbington, Claverley and Worfield, then South through Bridgnorth and Upton Cressett. Heading West and just before the 20 mile point the undulations will start to increase heading through Wall under Heywood towards Church Stretton. From Church Stetton you will encounter some serious hills travelling up The Burway through Bridges and towards The Stiperstones before turning North and heading downhill to the 50 mile point at Snailbeach. You will continue North to Minsterley where you will then head in an Easterley direction towards Dorrington, encountering further undulations on the way. From Dorrington the route becomes less aggressive, continuing Easterly through Acton Burnell and Cressage. Just past Cressage the incline will again start to increase, you will head North towards Uppington before heading in a South Easterley direction towards The Wrekin just before the 80 mile point. The last 20 miles of slightly undulated land is where you can pick up the pace through Ironbridge, Coalport, Burnhill Green, Pattingham, Seisdon, Swindon and finally ending at Kingswinford.

Standard Route (64.1 Miles / 102 Km) (+4127 ft / -4123 ft)

Starting at Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club, this route will take you in a North Westerly direction via Bobbington, Claverley and Worfield, then South through Bridgnorth and Upton Cressett. heading West and just before the 20 mile point the undulations will start to increase heading towards Acton Burnell at the 30 mile point. You will then head North East through Cressage and then downhill for the next 5 miles. The incline will again start to increase, you will head North towards Uppington before heading in a South Easterley direction towards The Wrekin just after the 40 mile point. The last 15 miles of slightly undulated land is where you can pick up the pace through Ironbridge, Coalport, Burnhill Green, Pattingham, Seisdon, Swindon and finally ending at Kingswinford.

Short Route (23.9 Miles / 38 Km) (+1019 ft / -1017 ft)

Starting at Dudley Kingswinford Rugby Club, this slightly undulating route will take you in a North Westerly direction via Bobbington, Claverley, Hopstone, Wyken and Worfield at the 10 mile point. You will then head North to Ackleton where the undulations will start to increase and then East through Kingslow and Pattingham before heading South East. The last two miles is predominately downhill and where you can pick up the pace towards Seisdon, Swindon and finally ending in Kingswinford.

How to Enter

Minimum Age – 16 for the Epic, 13 for the Standard and Short – we can make exceptions for experienced junior riders, get in touch to discuss.

Under 18’s must have a parental consent form signed and under 16’s must be accompanied by a fully participating parent or guardian. Please read our full T&C’s before entering.

Types of bike – drop-handlbar racing bikes, hybrids, touring, bromptons/commuting, mountain, tandems all permitted. Not allowed – trikes, recumbents, unicycles, electric bikes.

All cyclists must wear a cycle helmet on the sportive.

Entry fees:

Epic Route: Online: £26.00, – start time 8am

Standard Route: Online: £21.00 – start time 9am

Short Route: Online: £16.00 – start time 10am
