Compton Care response to the emerging Coronavirus (Covid-19) Pandemic – 18.3.2020

As the cases of Coronavirus (Covid-19) continue to increase, Compton Care remains committed as ever to providing excellent care to the people in our community who are living with incurable illnesses. It is even more important now that we work with our NHS and care home providers to support and relieve the overwhelming pressure expected on health services.

Our services

Our focus is now very much on keeping our essential and urgent care services running.

Our priority is to ensure our Inpatient Unit continues to operate safely and to the best of our ability. We are also exploring how we can extend this service to support the needs of our palliative care patients in our region. We will be adapting to enable more patients to access our services and to reduce pressures on acute hospital beds. We have a wonderful staff team at Compton Care and they are ready and willing to support the local health care system at a time of unprecedented pressures.

We’ll also continue to provide urgent care for patients in their home, as well as supporting GPs and District nursing services. This will expand to supporting patients that Compton would not normally be involved with.

Clinic based activities for those patients who access our Living Well Centre are temporarily suspended. We have also reduced our Lymphodoema and clinic based services focusing now on supporting urgent patients and supporting others over the phone.

We will continue to provide much needed psychological care and we are equipped to offer support through digital means including over the phone, through face time and skype.

All of our incredible Compton Care staff are doing a fantastic job of pulling together to ensure we’re able to continue to deliver these essential care services.

Fundraising and Retail Activities

As a charity it is also important that we continue business as usual for as many of our fundraising activities continue for as long as possible in order to fund this essential care.

In line with government advice discouraging mass gatherings (16.3.2020) we have taken the unfortunate decision to cancel a number of our fundraising events. Thank you to everyone who continues to support our events, our fundraising team are already busy planning our next steps for later in the year and we look forward to sharing details of future activities in due course.

Our retail shops remain open (as of 18.3.2020) and we gratefully welcome your custom and donations. We will continue to monitor the situation closely.

Our Compton Care Lottery will continue to run as normal, however house collections will be temporarily suspended until further notice. We sincerely thank all of our Compton Care Lottery members for their support to ensure we are able to continue to fund patient services.

Visitors to Compton Hall

Those visiting patients on our Compton Hall Inpatient Unit will be limited to two at a time. All visitors will be asked important but necessary screening questions when they arrive and will be reminded to be vigilant with hand washing.

We will continue to keep you updated and informed as the situation progresses.
