Volunteer to Career Clinical Career Pathway

Careers in patient facing roles

A fresh approach to accessing careers in patient facing roles.

Our new Volunteer to Career pathway programme is delivered in partnership with Hospice UK and Helpforce.

It offers opportunities and access to develop careers in Health and Social Care whilst being supported by an expert team of clinicians and mentors.

All who join the pathway will have access to a range of learning and development opportunities as well as being supported to complete a National Volunteering Certificate.

Those who join the pathway will have the opportunity to:

  • Be supported by expert clinicians and have a mentor for one-to-one support
  • Boost your CV and get a reference
  • Be supported to complete a National Volunteering Certificate
  • Work towards nationally recognised qualifications
  • Get specialist training and hands-on clinical experience
  • Gain skills for careers in health and social care
  • You don’t need previous experience and can undertake this scheme alongside your current role.

What to expect on the pathway

Those joining the pathway will be expected to undertake a minimum of one shift per week.

  • Shifts on our Lymphoedema Service will be either 9am – 12pm or 1pm – 4pm (Monday to Friday)
  • Shifts on our Adult Inpatient Unit will be either 8am – 10am, 10am – 2pm, or 4pm – 8pm (Monday to Sunday)

Shifts will be discussed during the interview stage and allocated dependant on availability.

How long is the pathway?

We usually expect our volunteers to commit to a minimum of one shift per week for 6 months.

Shorter periods of volunteering can be agreed by committing to more shifts per week.
