If lockdown has taught us anything, it’s that there are endless possibilities when it comes to going remote. So many of us quickly adapted to working from home, turning boardroom meetings into Teams calls and transforming our kitchens into offices. Cinema visits with friends became long-distance Netflix parties. Book clubs also continued thanks to the wonder of Zoom. Even trips to the zoo or museum weren’t off limits as businesses opened their doors virtually.
Lockdown has indeed opened up a whole host of options, and distance is no longer a barrier to working, volunteering or socialising.
But what about supporting your favourite local charity, from afar?
Compton Care is such an integral part of the Wolverhampton community that it’s sometimes easy to forget that we have supporters up and down the country – and from across the globe. Indeed, our hugely popular virtual quiz has attracted players from Scotland to South Africa, with quizzers also joining in from Canada and the USA!
Michael Thorpe, who lives in New York, became a regular Compton quizzer during lockdown. He says, “My whole family were all taking part in the Compton quiz, so it was good to compete against them remotely, especially when we were unable to see them in real life.”

If you’re a Compton supporter who doesn’t live on the doorstep, it’s easy to donate to us online – whether it’s setting up a Facebook fundraiser, giving a gift in memory via our website, or signing up as a regular giver. But surely you can’t get the Compton charity shop experience from home… right?
Wrong! Our dedicated eBay store really took off during lockdown, and currently offers an amazing selection of unique items, most of which you wouldn’t even find in our physical shops. From vintage football memorabilia to designer handbags and everything in between, there’s bound to be something that catches your eye. Our 99% positive feedback rating and status as a top-rated eBay seller means that you can buy with complete confidence, while also knowing that your purchase is directly helping those living with incurable illnesses.
There’s more! Did you also know that you can donate items for us to sell even if you don’t live in the local area? Well, thanks to our new Free Post Service, you can. It’s really easy and completely free of charge for supporters (the clue is in the name!).
Simply visit our Free Post Service page for more information on how to send your donations to us. Each box does cost us a small donation, so please do cram it full of amazing, re-saleable goodies. The Free Post Service is available for anyone in the UK.
Don’t forget our online shop too. We sell a range of brand-new gifts in aid of Compton, including branded merchandise and the beautiful heritage collection, featuring our very own ‘Compton’ William Morris design.
Maybe charity really does begin at home after all!
